Be 'Bear Aware' this Spring and Summer

As spring and summer beckon people outdoors, California's black bears are also active after a long winter hibernation. CDFW encourages citizens to help reduce nuisance encounters with this iconic mammal by being "bear aware," which means taking responsible actions that promote responsible behavior while living and recreating in bear country. More Info

From a communication from Kyle Murphy, DFW Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisor),  CDFW received 1 million Kokanee eggs from Washington State's Whatcom Fish Hatchery in mid-January. These eggs are located at the Silverado Fisheries Base (SFB) and under quarantine. Fish will remain at SFB and planted from there in May.

EAGLE LAKE OPENER Saturday, May 28, 2016

Glorious, perfect weather was the back-drop for the many anglers who headed to Eagle Lake for opening weekend!  No shortage of fishermen, just maybe a shortage of fish, for some.  Trophy rainbow trout hadn’t heard a boat or seen a hook since the end of December and although, according to anglers, the bites were many, fish in the net were a bit scarce!  The day after, on Sunday, fish were still hiding, but by Tuesday/Wednesday they were cautious, but could be caught.  Guide Cliff Spediacci’s dad caught two very nice trout, 19” 2-1/2# and 21” 3-1/4#.

A CIFFI General Meeting ”Blast” took place at Gone Fishin’ Marine, Dixon, on Wednesday, May 18, 2016.  Guest Speaker was STAFFORD LEHR, CDFW Deputy Director of Fish & Wildlife.  Dave Hurley, editor of “USAFishing.com”, attended the meeting and below is his summary of the comments made by Mr. Lehr.

ACTION AT BERRYESSA TROUT PENS!

Wednesday, April 20, 2016, Markley Cove Resort, Lake Berryessa.  STAN WONG, who heads up the Trout Pen Project, had been checking water temperatures regularly at the pens since early April.  The cooling trend kept the temps around 62-64 degrees and Stan determined conditions were perfect for the fish release.   Back in January 2016, approximately 750 pounds of healthy trout were delivered by California Dept. of Fish & Wildlife and were placed into the pens at the end of Markley Cove docks.  Volunteers provided the man-power and Markley Cove folks fed and watched them grow until release time.

EAGLE LAKE Getting Ready to Soar!

The water level continues to rise!  Pine Creek, the lake’s major source of water, began running on January 30 and has continued to run non-stop since.  Reports of snow pack in higher elevations as well as the continuing wet weather patterns have certainly helped to provide the lake with a positive look.  The tules, thriving along the shoreline again, have a definite green cast.  Anxious anglers are smiling!

Good Press from KENT BROWN, host of "Ultimate Bass" Radio, KHTK 1140AM Saturdays 5-6AM.  Check out the video - from Outdoor Channel's "Strike-King's Pro Journal".

Kent & pro angler SHAW GRIGSBY filmed the episode right here on Folsom Lake! Kent explains why the bass get to be so big!

January 21-24, 2016 – International Sportsmens Expo @ CalExpo, Sacramento -a great outdoor show!  CIFFI booth was a busy spot with membership sign-ups, renewals & plenty of conversation between anglers.
