An update from Kyle Murphy, DFW Sr., Environmental Scientist, on the landlocked Chinook egg take.   Crews took Chinook eggs from "tweeners" (fish that separate Spring from Fall runs) the first week of October at the Feather River Hatchery.  I participated in the first days effort.  Crews took a total of 2.76 million eggs, of which all were tripoded.   An allotment was retained at Feather River Hatchery and the remainder were shipped to Silverado Fisheries Base in Napa.  Eggs are looking good so far.   CDFW used their new triploid machine which provides for twice the capacity of older machines for each triploid batch, thus improving efficiency.  Currently, everything looks good to meet our 900,000 fish allotment target for release next year.  Another inventory at the eyed stage, in a few months, and will see how much mortality occurred.

An additional day to clean the Lake Berressa Pens in preparation to accept fish in January has been scheduled for ...Nov. 7th at 9am.

If you are available, we need volunteers to help complete our clean up and repairs on the pens. Please contact Stan Wong via email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Remember to wear old clothes, bring rain gear and plan on lunch afterwards.

Thank you for all your help and support

Message from Kyle Murphy, DFW Sr. Environmental Scientist, says "a second Kokanee egg take on the Little Truckee River has been scheduled on next Tuesday, 10/16.   This take is conditional on a ripeness check to be conducted on Monday, 10/15.  If the fish are spawned out, then this take effort will be cancelled.  I will notify you on Monday either way."

Kyle Murphy from DFW just gave CIFFI the results of the 10/09/18 egg take... we had our best one day in recent history! The egg count was 1.5 million. They handled close to 700 male and female fish with the longest fish being 18 inches and the average being 15 and three-quarter inches. A huge shout out to all of the volunteers from CIFFI, Kokanee Power, and DFW. It was a 13 hour day on the water for egg collection, and an even little longer day for DFW and San Joaquin Hatchery workers who wrapped up at 4am.

TAKE A FRIEND FISHING

This is a great time of year to take someone new to fishing and show them the ropes. Fall-run salmon in the Central Valley rivers, striped bass in the Delta, tuna and yellowtail off the coast of Southern California, and trout fishing in the Sierra are all great bets for summer fishing in California. Get out on the water, take a friend or family member with you and enjoy the outdoors.

Due to last minute unforeseen circumstances, tonight's membership meeting in Dixon as been cancelled. It has been tentatively rescheduled for June 20th.

Plan on participating !!  You can sign up the day of the derby!!

It is with heavy hearts that CIFFI is passing on this sad news today.

Rick, a member of CIFFI and Board Member for many years, passed away on Friday night, Oct. 13, 2017.  As some of you know, Rick had been in declining health over the past few years.  Over the past two weeks he suffered a tremendous loss of comfort, quality of life, and ability to manage on his own.  He passed quietly while under hospice care in his sister's home.   As we get more details from the family we will pass along any pertinent information regarding services/celebration of life event(s).

Rest assured...any fish swimming in the rivers beyond are in for a rude awakening with his arrival!!!

Tight Lines Rick....

The second Project Eagle Lake Trout fundraiser for 2017 was held at the Eagle Lake RV Park & Store in Spalding on Saturday, September 2, 2017.

The attendees, participants and volunteers unanimously agreed the event was a complete success!  Over 250 folks enjoyed a day crammed full of fun, food, raffles and games.  To start the festivities, the crowd performed the traditional Star Spangled Banner on kazoos.  Weather was perfect, food was excellent and raffles, games and auctions were enjoyed by all.  The funds raised will continue to support PELT’s goals of making the fishing experience a memorable one at Eagle Lake.

Looking forward to 2018…when once again we all meet at Eagle Lake for fun, food and fundraising!

Eagle Lake Update…April 27, 2017

A great photo has been posted by Mike Arnold, a picture that most folks thought would take years to happen.  Enough water has entered the lake in the Spring of 2017 to enable visitors to Spalding to launch their boats at the ramp.  Skeptics in the past few years were convinced it would take a long time for this to happen, but it did, in one year.  Mother Nature prevailed!
